The Problem with Flu Shots

I am not a fan of flu shots. ?Why? Two reasons: I’d rather use natural methods to keep myself well, and I don’t think flu shots are good for you. ?

First I’ll address why I don’t like them:

  • Injecting the flu vaccine into the blood stream bypasses our natural immune system essentially putting it under attack.
  • The strains in the flu shot are from previous viruses making them ineffectual against the current season’s strains.
  • They’re preserved with Thimerisol (mercury) which is toxic to humans and has side effects that are often irreparable.
  • The data supporting the effectiveness of the shots is backed by pharmaceutical companies making the results biased.
  • Children and the elderly are targeted and they typically have weaker immune systems (children’s immune systems are not fully developed and seniors’ systems tend to be compromised). ?Immunizing these groups further compromises they’re immune system (see my first point).

What to do if you elect not to get immunized? ?As my favorite homeopathic teacher, Dr. Luc DeSchepper, used to say, “terrain is everything.” ?What he means is you will only get sick if you’re not taking care of yourself. ?The better you care for yourself, the less likely you’ll become ill. ?Here’s a few things you can do to keep yourself healthy naturally:

  • Wash your hands to the tune of Happy Birthday. ?This ensures you’ve thoroughly cleaned your hands and removed any germs. ?And wash often.
  • Avoid antibacterial soaps and hand lotions. ?I know this sounds counter intuitive, but we need exposure to germs so that our immune system stays tuned up.
  • People touch their face hundreds of times a day. ?Be mindful of this and resist the urge to rub your nose, your eyes or put your fingers in your mouth – especially if they’re not clean.
  • At the first signs of a cold, take 1,000 milligrams of Vitamin C. ?Repeat as needed (not to exceed 2,000 milligrams/day). ?Too much Vitamin C can result in loose stools. If this happens, take a break for a day or two.
  • Get 8 hours of good quality sleep. ?The body heals when it rests. ?This is the most important tip. ?If you do nothing else, get some rest.
  • Eat a whole foods based diet. ?Avoid junk food or processed foods especially if you’re run down which is typically when we crave these types of food.
