Stress Free Driving

Like most people, I find driving stressful. ?Everyone is so busy thinking of their list of things to do, and no one is paying attention. ?It’s gotten to the point now that even though I know I have a green light, I still look to make sure the folks with the red light have stopped. ?Because plenty of times they don’t. ?And even though it wouldn’t be my fault, I don’t relish the thought of a vehicular collision just to prove a point.

So what can we do to make sure our drive as pleasurable as Henry Ford wanted it to be? ?Here’s a few things I do to make sure my commute is stress free:

  • Leave five minute early. ?Seems like a no-brainer right? ?How often do we fly out the door running just five minutes behind? ?Take back your sanity. ?Give yourself the extra few minutes and leave early. ?It’s just five minutes.
  • Audio books are my favorite way to stay calm when driving. ?Reading is a luxury most of us don’t have time for anymore. ?By listening to audio books, I have a chance to “read.” ?I check them out of the library so they’re free! ?And if I get caught in traffic, I don’t mind. ?I have something that’s entertaining me.
  • Tune in to the comedy channel. ?I just discovered this the other day when I was scanning the AM station for something different. ?On AM1200, Matt Siegel (of Kiss 108 fame) has a channel dedicated to comedy. ?Some of the stuff is really funny. ?I’m a huge fan of Russell Brand, and he was on there the other night during my commute home. ?Which by the way was traffic laden. ?Didn’t bother me in the least.

That’s three things you can do to bring a little more balance back into your life. ?Happy driving!
