It’s hard to go anywhere today and not see someone using a “smart” phone, tablet, or laptop. These items of convenience were supposed to make our lives easier and give us a better quality of life.
I’m not so sure my life has gotten easier or better. It’s made it easier to work more just about anywhere I can pick up a signal. But better, not so much. I feel like I’m “on” more than ever.
Here’s what I do to work smarter and not more or harder:
- Not answer the phone when I’m driving unless it’s a family member. Instead, I listen to an audiobook or music to find a little slice of happiness during my commute.
- Check email at specific times of the day rather than all day.
- Limit social media scrolling to 10-15 minutes once or twice a day.
- Turn off my computer no later than 7:00 p.m. so I can spend more time with family, preparing for the next day or reading a good book.
- Create an hour of power where I do the most important things on my “to do” list to stay focused and moving forward.
- Schedule mini-breaks to get up and stretch or walk around to re-boot my brainpower.
What do you do to disconnect?? Please share below. I’d love to hear about them! Wishing you well.
