Are you addicted to stress?
Most people would answer that question with a resounding ?”NO!” ?Because the last thing any of us wants in our lives is unnecessary stress. But I’ll bet if you sat down and really thought about it, your answer wouldn’t be so black and white. You’d probably see subtle shades of gray sprinkled in.
What do I mean? ?Well, for example, are you the type of person who:
- is more motivated to jump into action when a deadline looms?
- reaches for a caffeinated beverage (coffee, red bull, tea, soda) when you’re dog tired and need a boost of energy?
- works late into the night because you’re more creative or do your best work after 8:00 PM but still get up at the crack of dawn?
- complain about how much you have to do, but wear your weariness like a badge of honor?
If any of these scenarios sounds familiar to you, you may be addicted to stress.
The good news is, with a few simple changes you can reprogram yourself to create better habits.
- To start, choose one of the above points or select one of your own. Then decide on a healthier way to manage the situation. Instead of jump-starting your adrenaline with caffeine, add in some healthy protein for a boost of sustainable energy. Try nuts/nut butters, hummus or a nutrient dense protein shake like Shakeology?or Sun Warrior. What I like about the shakes are they both have 17 grams of protein, are quick and easy to make and taste really good.
- If you have a deadline with plenty of notice, chunk down your project in manageable pieces and get the job done with a much clearer mind and a lot less stress. Use an app like Pomdoro. It will keep you focused and builds in much needed breaks (5 minutes every half hour).
Are you a night owl?
Take some time out during the day to recharge your batteries. If you feel tired, close your eyes for a few minutes to rest. Breathe in and out deeply 10 to 20 times. The oxygen will revitalize you and helps you feel calmer.
Small changes can bring about big results and less stress!
Be well.
