On Valentine’s Day our thoughts tend to focus on the affairs of the heart ~ flowers, chocolates and hopefully a romantic dinner somewhere special.

But don’t forget our physical heart deserves just as much attention. ?Here are a few things you can do to strengthen your love muscle:

  • Eat a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and fiber.
  • Add fish to your meal plan at least twice a week.
  • Try substituting almond, rice, hemp or coconut milk for dairy products.
  • Use salt in moderation, and avoid chemically-cleansed table salt. Try Himalayan or sea salt that are rich in essential minerals.
  • Eat one ounce of organic dark chocolate a day! ?A?study published in the?British Medical Journal?showed that dark chocolate consumption can reduce cardiovascular problems, such as heart attack and stroke.
  • Love with reckless abandonment. Studies have shown that a joyful, loving heart improves overall health!

Happy Healthy Heart Month! ?Be well.
