It’s 2019 … Now What?

Do you have any rituals to ring in the New Year? Last year was such a challenge for me that I decided I wanted to acknowledge the “out with the old and in with the new” mindset. So, I borrowed something I read on Facebook by Rachel Feldman and added my own twist to it.

First, I opened all the windows (and I mean all of them!) to literally change the air. Fortunately, it was 58 degrees out so it wasn’t freezing cold out. Then I took some sage, and smudged the house.?In case you’re not familiar with it, burning sage is an ancient tradition used to purify.

After I closed the windows ? my husband came home in the midst of all this and thought I’d gone totally nuts ? I went on to the second part. If you’re looking to release the past, I highly recommend this exercise. It will help you let go of all that no longer serves you.

Get ready to set yourself free!

Step 1: Get a pen and a single sheet of paper.

Step 2: Set a timer for 8 minutes (but feel free to take as long as you need).

Step 3: DUMP all your emotions on that page.

Write down all your disappointments, things that went wrong, made you feel angry or frustrated ? basically anything you want to process and clear out of your life.

Rule #1: Curse words are encouraged if you’re inclined to use them.

Rule #2: When you get to the bottom of the page DO NOT TURN IT OVER.

When you get to the bottom of the page, go back to the top and start again. Write directly over your own words. The page will become illegible which is good for a couple of reasons. First, we’ve quickly covered our ‘woe is me’ tracks. And second, because it no longer matters if you’re even forming complete sentences.

Why this matters: you’ll switch from processing with your left brain to your right brain. You may even feel it happen. When it does, things feel like they’re really “leaving” you. So just keep writing.

Rule #3: Imagine your emotions flowing down your arm into the paper. Imagine the paper can catch all the emotional energy that has felt stuck in you.

Continue to write until the timer goes off. If you need more time, take it. If not, move on to Step 4.

Step 4: This last step may be the most important. Treat that piece of paper like it has literally captured all the energy you had stored up inside of you that no longer serves you. Then find a safe place, and with as much ceremony as you can muster, burn that bad a#* and send all that energy back to the Universe where it belongs.

That’s it! You’ve now cleaned the slate and can start your new year with a fresh perspective.

I’ve alway been fond of the saying “energy follows intention” and my intention is to have an amazing, fun-filled, joyful and blessed New Year.?And I wish you the very same!
