Did you know? …
Pain is the most common reason that Americans see their physician; it affects more people than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. According to Dr. Brenden Cochran, ND, the Medical Director of Interactive Health Clinic in Lynnwood, WA, “it’s also the most common cause of long-term disability and costs our economy between $560-$635 billion annually, making pain management a critical topic for discussion.”
Taking preventative steps might just be the easiest and most cost effective way to keep from becoming part of this staggering statistic. Even if you’re heading in that direction, it’s not too late to implement some new habits to move you towards living a pain free life. Here’s a few changes you can add to your routine that?can tip the scales in your favor:
- Supplements -?Magnesium, fish oil, ginger, and turmeric can be very effective in reducing inflammation.
- Herbs – Anti-inflammatory herbs, such as curcumin, and enzymes such as bromelain can be helpful.
- Mindful Breathing –?Breathing deeply is a very effective way to reduce stress which is leads to the majority of today’s health problems. One method is to count backwards from 50. On the exhale count 50, then 49 on the inhale, repeating down to 20. When you reach 20, only count on the exhale. This takes about 3 minutes and can be done anywhere at anytime.
- Movement –?The average American sits most of their day. Getting up and moving periodically throughout the day improves circulation. Even light household duties like washing dishes, sweeping or vacuuming helps. A brisk walk outdoors works too!
