Happy Spring! I love this time of year. With new beginnings, sunny days, and warmer temperatures on the way, what’s not to love?
It’s a great time to start something new. Especially since we still have everyday stressors that can make even the sunniest of days seem not so bright. That’s why it’s so important to take stock of where we’re at and decide where we want to go. When we have a plan, we’re so much better equipped to navigate chaos and overwhelm without becoming a victim to all the drama and stress.
I was thinking recently that one of the most successful parts of my practice is my 3, 6 and 9 month health coaching programs. Why? Because they get results. What’s interesting is that everyone I talk to about these programs?is really interested, but not everyone?who expresses interest signs up. So it got me wondering …?what’s stopping these women I’m talking to from signing up?
- Fear of new things. Change, even if it’s better, can be scary. Staying where we’re?at is easier and more comfortable.
- Too busy.?We’re responsible for?everyone and everything else. Which means we’re?at the very bottom of our own to-do list.
- Disappointment/Fear of failure. How many times have you committed?to something (New Year’s resolutions, book club, the gym) and not made time for it? (See bullet point #2.)
- Guilt. We’ve become so accustomed to our busyness, we wear our martyrdom like a badge of honor. Taking time for ourselves would be selfish. Wouldn’t it?
We all have things we’d like to work on. But our?busyness becomes an excuse?so?we won’t have to deal with “it.” Whatever “it” means for you. Maybe it’s dealing with …
- The extra pounds that keep piling?on
- Stress eating your way through a box of mint Girl Scout cookies after a particularly trying day
- The fact that we say “yes” to everyone else while saying “no” to our own hopes and dreams
- Taking the necessary steps to create a happier, more joy filled life (if your last memory of real happiness was swinging on a swing as a child, we need to talk)
- Feeling guilty for taking time for yourself?when so many other people in your life need help
As Joshua Rosenthal, the Director of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, is fond of saying: “When you’re on a plane, the first thing they tell you is to put your own mask on first.” It’s only when we take care of ourselves that we have the energy to care for others.
So here’s what I’ve been thinking. Why not join a Group Program that can deliver:
- big?rewards (if you’re willing to take small steps every week)
- that incorporates accountability (ensures you meet your goals)
- is conducted by private Facebook group (convenience is key)
- and a reasonable price point ?(who doesn’t want that?)
I’ve watched these?programs work for the past?ten years because we all like to help others. Participants become invested not only in their own success, but in the success of the group. The support, relationship building and accountability are true catalysts for change. Which in turn makes any stressful hurdle you encounter in your day to day life easier to manage. There’s a famous quote that says:
“Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.” – Unknown
