Day 9 ? Sugar
Nearly everyone craves sweets. But have you ever questioned why you want candy, chocolate bars, cake, or cookies? Cravings are not necessarily a bad thing. They?re a clue to something that?s going on in your body.
Sugar cravings (and carb laden snacks like chips) are the clues our bodies give to signal that it needs energy. Then it converts what you?ve eaten to glucose which fuels the body.
All carbs contain sugar, but the type of carbs you eat (simple vs. complex) matters. Simple carbs are usually highly processed, made up of refined sugars and have little or no vitamins or minerals. They convert quickly to glucose (think sugar rush) and what follows soon after is the crash. According to Joshua Rosenthal, ?The body sees the high level of sugar as an emergency state and works hard to burn it up as quickly as possible.?
Fruit, on the other hand, has simple sugars but they?re natural. The fiber content of fruit helps slow down digestion so you don?t have the highs and lows of processed sugary foods.
