Love this recipe from the folks at PaleoSecret.?I’ve changed it up a bit by using more coconut oil and the option to use ginger essential oil because sometimes you just don’t have fresh ginger in the house. This recipe is?great for soothing the stomach and can be?used as a natural sleep remedy. It’s chock full of anti-inflammatory ingredients which helps keep sickness and disease at bay. Turmeric has the reputation of being one of the most powerful herbs on the planet and is known for fighting and reversing disease according to Dr. Josh Axe. Coconut milk is?naturally high in saturated fatty acids which help slow down absorption so we can go longer without feeling hungry!
Start by making a paste:
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup turmeric
Whisk?on medium low heat for 7-10 minutes or until water has evaporated and the mixture becomes a paste. Using a spatula, scoop the paste out of the pan and into an airtight container. You’ll only need 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon per serving so store the leftover paste in the refrigerator. It should last up to two weeks.
Milk Mixture:
- 2 cups coconut milk
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 Tbs. unrefined coconut oil
- 1 tsp.-1Tbs. turmeric paste
- 6-8 black peppercorns
- 1/2-1 tsp. raw honey or stevia to taste (optional)
- 1 tsp. chopped ginger or 2 drops ginger essential oil
Combine all ingredients using a whisk (note: if using essential oil, do not add until mixture is removed from heat). Cover pan, and simmer on medium low heat for 10 minutes. Strain with?a fine mesh strainer. Pour into a mug, sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy!
