What Women Want

Earlier this month mothers everywhere celebrated Mother’s Day.?Perhaps you had breakfast in bed, read the paper, received fresh flowers, met for brunch or received a gift that celebrated how special you really are.?Whether?you’re a mom or an earth angel who loves and supports the children in your lives, I hope you enjoyed your special day.

I think most of us would agree that the best thing about Mother’s Day is there’s no expectation for us to do anything. The day is a clean slate. Plenty of down time. Time for fun.?Time to relax.?Time to reflect.?Time to be. Time.

That’s what women really want. Time. Time for ourselves. Time to take a yoga class. Time to read a magazine cover to cover or a book for the pure pleasure of it. Time to try a new recipe. Time to linger over a cup of tea with friends.?Time spent in nature.?Time to talk. Time to listen. Time to create memories that we’ll cherish for a lifetime.

So how do we capture this illusive gift that we treasure above all other things? It’s simpler than you think. I know what you’re going to say. “I’m too busy. My schedule is jam packed. There’s no way I can squeeze one more thing in…”

But you must. You need to squeeze you in. Even if it’s just 30 minutes a week?to start. And the secret to making time for yourself is to pull out your calendar, find an empty time slot, and schedule yourself in.

Maybe it’s at the end of your day and you take a bath with espsom salt and lavender essential oil. Or you buy tickets to a play at a local theater. Or send out a save the date message to get together with friends. Or read 10 pages of a good book at the end of your day. Or buy the ingredients to make that new recipe you’ve been dying to try. Or perhaps you can spare 10 minutes to listen to a meditation app you downloaded to your phone.

The key to successfully finding time for yourself is to take dramatic, life changing, mind blowing action and pencil yourself in. No one else is going to do it for you. And you know what? No one is going to mind.

And one more thing. Don’t feel guilty about it. Stop guilt tripping yourself out of the fun zone. Do the thing that makes you happy and let yourself enjoy the experience.

What you really want is time. How you fill it is up to you.

Have a suggestion on how to spend your “me” time? Please share it here. I’d love to know how you find your bliss!
