As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day, I’ve been thinking about what that really means. It’s about spending time with family and friends and enjoying an extra day off. But even more important than that, it’s about all the personal freedoms we’re privileged to have.?
And if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past year, it’s how important time freedom really is. Time to read for pleasure, linger over a cup of tea, take days off for vacation, or spend quality time with my family.?
Before I had my epiphany, I wore my busyness like a badge of honor. I guess it made me feel important to be so productive. As if my worth was measured by how many things I could get done in a day.?
I see things much more clearly now. I cling to my downtime like it’s a life raft, which it is.
Not just for me, but for you too.?
Life is made up of a multitude of habits. Some of them good, some not so great.?
Time freedom is a habit that deserves to be at the top of the list.?
With it, we have the energy for all the other tasks that need to get done. And as we each celebrate what freedom means to us in our own way, I’m reminded of something my grandfather, a WW2 veteran, said to me on one of his last days on earth,?“I worked every day of my life. Don’t do that. Take some time to live.”
It’s taken me awhile to actually hear what he was trying to tell me, but I get it now.?
Enjoy the freedom of truly being free!
