Food is Fuel. Not Therapy.
Have you ever noticed that when you’re in a bad mood, your good eating habits go right out the window? The same pint of ice cream you’ve been avoiding for the past three weeks because you’re “being good” is suddenly empty in a matter of minutes. No hesitation. No savoring. Just gone.
Whatever filter you had in place that kept you from succumbing to your guilty pleasure somehow got switched off.
I can honestly say that I’ve hard myself think, “The heck with it. I’m going to eat as much as I want. Whatever.” Of course that devil may care attitude goes out the same window once my mood stabilizes. Then I’m left with guilt and regret.
Which is why I like having a back up plan. Essential oils are one of many tools we can use to help improve our mood so we can stop self-medicating with food or any other vise we may have.
According to Dr. Josh Axe, “One of the most notable areas that essential oils impact is your emotions tied to memories, thanks to activation of your limbic system/hippocampus.” The uptake of essential oils is through the olfactory system (inhalation) and into our limbic system. The oils can help manage mood just by smelling them!
Other essential oils that can help improve your mood, energy and focus include peppermint, lavender, orange and frankincense. If you’d like more information on using essential oils or would like to try a sample, just comment below!
